im at a cross road... should i use some of my budget i have saving for a CO2 system for a micro controller, or should i just continue saving it? the reason i want my micro controller is to make a sun rise / sun set feature with my leds.... its going to be so cool !!! but then again the investment in CO2 for my 55g is also going to be needed soon too.... the kit im buying would only be 30$ were as the co2 system would be costing me around 200$..... so what is your vote?

Whats 30 dollars? Go for the controller! You can make that money up by turning in cans for the deposit!
When in d0ubt read it until it makes sense, then read it again!

Sunrise/set is a nice to have. A Co2 kit will yield more visible results.

The controller seems like a less expensive purchase if it makes you happy go for it. I remember saving up for my co2 system took a while to get all the parts together. I decided to buy individual parts and put it together instead of getting a kit. Was able to save some money doing this and pick up the parts as I saw the deals come by.

Get it. Often its the inexpensive little touches that make a big difference to the way a tank looks
    My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

My vote would be CO2 first as that will have the most impact on the plants (and therefor the tank as well) and then the lighting controller. The sun rise / sunset feature is really cool, one of my favorite aspects of using my LEDs, but that only last for about 1/2 hour in the morning (when I'm at work) and 1/2 hour in the evening.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I really like the sunrise/set on my LED's but I would do as Cliff says. Get the plants going and after that you will probably have enough growth to sell off some. You will then have the cash for the micro controller.
I was happy to find an LED system which came equipped with this feature and I'm still fine tuning it. I like it in the evening when it gets dark outside my whites go down and the blues really make the tank and fish look awesome. I don't have any plants in the S/W tank. But the corals show up well.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..
