  1. Default EHEIM Classic 2217 Canister Setup

In my future tank setup, I've got this media setup, in descending levels:

    FLUVAL PreFilter Media
    --Separator--
Coarse Filter Plastic Bio Media (See Image)
    Carbon Bag
    --Separator--
    FLUVAL BioMax Media
    --Separator--

Assuming that the water flow goes from the top and out the bottom hole, this setup is valid, correct?

And also, are plastic sponges like this good for media?:

It's okay if they're not, I'm just asking.
    10 Gallon: 5 Peppered Corys | Pool Filter Sand | x2 AquaTech 5-15 Power Filter | 2 plastic plants

If you buy it new it should come with all the media you need.

    1. It doesn't, EHIEMS flow from bottom to top.

    2. The scrubbies can and will work but using more of the biomax [or similar] would be far more effective as the ceramic media has far more surface area for BB.

No need for carbon btw unless you are removing meds. Like many, I don't run carbon on a regular basis at all.

    What are your 'separators'?
    Gas mileage isn't everything OIIIIIIIO
Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

A warm beer is better than a cold beer. Because nothing is better than a cold beer, and a warm beer is better than nothing.

Don't they come with the 2217? I guess some call them "stand-offs":

There's endless variations on the stocking of this filter. The drawing above is a good general load. Important to know is that the water enters at the bottom so you want some kind of particle filter there. It exits at the top so top off your load with some filterfloss.

Yeah, I know of those [& use them in my 2217s] but the OP has one listed in the middle of the filter [As opposed to on the ends] ... To what end?
Just seems like wasted space to me :-/.

It was originally for separating the media, but I can take it out.

Just to clarify, Do you mean the green plastic parts that look a bit like electric stove burner elements?

I only use those at the top and bottom, I Just use the course blue sponges to separate the media.

    Ah! Great idea!

I'll be sure to do that. And yes, I'm talking about the stove-like green things.

And also, do you recommend EHEIM Substrat Pro?

I have some of the 'pro', It's perfectly usable.

I have some of the regular & the lava also as well as seachem matrix in different filters here and there..

All are effective for my purposes but i admit to understocking and overfiltering which makes life easier all around you know :-D
