Thanks Kev, will try your suggestion...we very well may have had him over a year, he was one of the original critters that my daughter first had in a fish bowl, then went into an un-cycled 10 gallon, then when through a fish-in cycle

We are not short on snails, we have 1 other mystery adult, 1 golden Inca adult, and like 6 mystery juvies....who somehow survived the snail egg sac removal we did some weeks back

He's floating this morning, trapdoor barely open...no noticable stench...will probably euthanize today...thanks for your help

No problem. If he was big when you got him, it's possible he was near 1yr or so in age already, so he's probably lived a good life. =]

Slappy - I'd hold off on euthanizing him. Kevin may be right. He might just be old and it's his time but they can sometimes just be really full and enjoying a little mini sabbatical. I had a yellow apple that I watched for a week - was sure he was dying or dead as he was pretty much closed up like yours with no activity. pulled him out and did the sniff test every day and was certain I'd find him dead. Now he's back to his old self and has been for several weeks.
So, I'd wait a while. Of course, if he smells when you do your daily check, he's gone, but do give him a little more time. they just get lazy sometimes.

No, I keep meaning to buy some zuchinni and letting them try it...they way they devour the algae tabs is something to see, I'm sure they would do the same with squash

Do you microwave it (in water) for a minute or two first?

After doing a PWC on the 10 gallon last night, I noticed the gold Inca snail is...gone?...it had benn sitting for a few days in the same place in the tank, all of our snails have done this at one time or another...the currents of the PWC brought it to the front, and it looks like this, sorry for the crummy pic:

Not sure what happened here....looks like the trapdoor is gone, and all that is left is a shell (?)

I think the best and easiest plan might be to try getting a plant to increase the water quality.
I would really recommend "marimo moss balls". They don't have roots and they oxygenate the tank and clear the water. These little guys are hardy yokes. You can buy them on ebay (where i got mine) for like 5 with free shipping to anywhere in the world
p.s. if they all died you could try a cold water aquarium (just remove your heater) there are really cool and unique coldwater fish you can get that are reall hardy just ask your pet shop
hope i helped. good luck! :)
