Yeah, I hear you. Can you order one on line? The duct tape, while a bit dangerous, will work for now. Another idea is to go back to the nylon over the intake and poke a few small holes in that.
When in doubt, do a water change.

The intake is full of holes that I drilled, so I'm thinking of cutting the slotted end off and putting a small piece of nylon over the opening with a rubber band...(?)

I was going to suggest similar. Now that you have the tiny holes drilled in the tube, why not just add nylon with a rubber band over the slotted end, no need to cut it off.
When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Reason 6,647 to always have a bottle of wine on hand:

I cut off the slotted end and whittled down a piece of the cork to fit the end of the pick-up tube, not a perfect fit, but sealed off enough, and it's wedged tight enough to not go anywhere...

Now the only question is what to do with the open bottle of wine??....

Nice ingenuity with the cork... I hope it is from a bottle of white wine.
