I forgot about the filter issue with the impeller, that is probably what caused this. Like I said, it's probably not a big deal, just a mini-spike. Water changes never hurt.
Just an fyi: I decided to give that a try after reading about you all cleaning the sponges in your AC's in tap water. So I tried it. My tank was well seasoned and I ended up with a mini cycle and a big bacterial bloom and lost 3 fish - 2 corys and a Colombian Tetra - and that was staying on top of my water changes.
I did nothing else to the filter or the biomax or my other filter. So now I'm scared to try it again. I mostly leave the sponge alone. :o(
Clearly that doesn't happen to everyone but it was a very bad experience and I'll never do it again

    Happy Friday, Ladies
The sponge that I cleaned was the large one, that goes at the bottom of the AC...How to describe it?...a brick of mud, maybe?...I set out a big bowl, both nights, put tank water in it, and moved the BB from one filter to another...Squeezed the "mud" off of the sponge, in the tank water, and set it aside...it did dry out overnight...

What I traded between the two was the original Whisper sponge with my colony of BB, and the ceramic pellets that came with the "new" AC filter, I've kept them in the mesh bag this entire time, I bet the bag itself is home to BB...

I think HB1 is absolutely correct...not only did I remove BB with the SB Pineapple and the glow cave, I removed some with the marbles, and by cleaning the housing/motor of the AC30 before it got back into the system...so naturally, there may be some water parameter changes...duh...I should have known that

Just did about a 75% WC, and the fish seem happy...I think I'm good for now

Thanks so much for checking in, and have an awesome weekend...3 day WE coming up next...4 day for me, I'm taking next Friday off

I would like to add that even though some people do it without a problem, I would not rinse my sponges in chlorinated water. I like to keep all possible beneficial bacteria in place regardless if I need all of them or not. I like to err on the side of caution.

That being said, I do rinse mine in tap water, but I have a non-chlorinated well.

These things combined will do it most every time. Have a great weekend.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

It's amazing how sensitive these environments we set up can be...the answer was obvious, everyone is correct...when you have a stable tank, and you remove a bit of one of the factors that keep that tank stable (in my case, the BB), instability occurs...I will try to remember the important lesson I learned tonight..

    Ciao

At first they can be quite sensitive, but as they age and mature they become quite "tough". That takes time, experience, and a proper set-up though.

Sad news this a.m....the original molly that made it through this ordeal has died...I'm surprised with all she's been through that she made it this long...Lauren wants to add another platy or two to go with the 2 we have and the 7 tetras, but I told her we need to wait until we get the water parameters back in line...not sure we are going to get more fish anyway, would just rather get some shrimp, but we shall see
