    Good morning everyone,
We made it to the LFS this weekend (it's actually a full pet store, only about 10 minutes from my house, that I've never been to)...They had a nice selection of fish, lots of tanks...of course, the first ones you see when you walk in are those garish "glofish", and Lauren instantly gravitated towrad them....eventually talked her out of those, and we decided to get some "x-ray tetras", she actually picked them out...she liked the fact that you can see through them..I was looking at barbs myself....The tanks at the LFS all looked clean, didn't see any dead or diseased looking fish...One thing I forgot to do while there was ask them if they could special order for me, but I can give them a call and ask...

We brought seven of the "x-ray tetras" home, and they seem to be doing quite well!..they tend to stay in their school in one place of the tank, but I think they will start to explore soon....they go CRAZY at feed time, you'd think they were starved...

I tested the LFS water when we got home, just for the heck of it...ammonia and nitrite were 0, but nitrate was kinda high, 30 maybe?

Anyhow, fuzzy pics below...in one of the close-ups of the tetras, you can see that one of them has a missing/undeveloped eye...I joked that we need to get him an eye patch, so Lauren named him "Patch", he's her favorite

Have not had a chance to test my water since the additional fish, will test this evening...

(Edit...dang it, pics are too small!...will try again later)

Very cool, enjoy them! I use black poster board on the back of my tanks. It doesn't get wet, but if it does it is cheap to replace.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

It doesn't have to be black, what ever suits your or Laurens mood will work. I had a betta tank with a pink background at one time. Those snails are neat.

Tank looks nice - very colorful! I have 11 of the gold pristella tetras, which are the albino form of the x-ray. Same fish, different color. I love mine. They are active and very hardy. Hope Lauren is enjoying her new fish!

Yes, I guess we could use a different color...anything to block out her lime green bedroom walls lol....I think those snails are cool, too!

Hi gronlaura, missed this post of yours earlier, did not get an e-mail notification (?)

Anyway, the tetras seem to be adjusting to their new home well...the school is venturing further into the tank, taking a quick peek, then all herding back up at their favorite spot, the front left of the tank...they are great fun to watch when feeding...

AND, I believe their bioload is no problem whatsoever....48 hours after they were introduced, everything is good, no ammonia, no nitrite, and 20 nitrate...

I've noticed a slight evidence of algae, and REALLY want to get some more snails, and some shrimp...the shipping prices are stopping me...but I will call the LFS tomorrow...

All I noticed at LFS as far as shrimp were some "grass shrimp" (?)...the ticket read "you pick, $1.50 each, we pick, .15 each" or something to that effect...I need to find out if they will order for me, maybe with a reduced shipping price...those sites that offer them guarantee non DOA, but with strict rules....and more $...not sure I can be here to receive them in a timely manner, we're gone during the day M-F...

Thanks for commenting and your pics!

The shrimp might be ghost shrimp, have also seen them labeled glass shrimp, maybe the label was wrong. That is the only shrimp I can see selling for that price. They are often used as feeder snacks for bigger fish. It is a good way to test drive having shrimp before buying the expensive ones.

I have a private vendor that I purchase bumblebee x tiger hybrid shrimp from. Their stripes are not quite as pronounced as the stripes in the picture you linked, but I will pm you her info as soon as I can find it. I think she only charges $1.50 per shrimp and like $8 shipping or something. I loved her shrimp that she sold me. Very healthy and active.
