    It is a perfect tank for a 13 year old and I bet Lauren loves it ( I had to go back and get the age and name). I think it is cute.
    I wish I had a picture of my first tank with its clown puke gravel, and I mean clown puke...

    I do have a delightful picture of this atrocity from a few years ago.. The blue gravel was not my choice I swear!

    Now we are even.
    When I go fishing I just place a sharp rock in the water and sit there waiting for all the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
    Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
    I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
    Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

    I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

    Thanks HB, she does like it...she was at a friend's house this WE and hasn't seen the "nightlight" yet, so we sent a pic to her cell...she's excited...

    I still think "clown puke gravel" would be a good name for a rock band...

    Now all we need is for that dang nitrite level to get to "0" so that we can get some more fish....

    LOL at the blue gravel tank...it's not THAT bad

    Hey, BTW, can you tell from my pic what kind of plants those are in the back corners?...the one on the left is very dark green, looks like some kind of fern (?)...they both seem to be doing ok, I guess...

    THANKS, going to do a water test and will post back...

    I am never happy with that tank for some reason. Even still and it is planted with a natural color gravel. As soon as I can source the fish I want it is going through another tear down and re-scape.

    I am a plant noob so wait until someone with better plant knowledge comes along, but it may be some sort of cryptocoryne.
    cryptocoryne willisii looks similar.

    or Amazon Sword

    or how about Java Fern

    Yes, that first pic looks just like the plant I have....

    Ammonia = 0
    Nitrate = 10
    Nitrite = 1.0

    DANG IT, 'trite went up a bit....not gonna get discouraged though, continuing with the daily water changes...

    Haha love the obligatory Spongebob pineapple house.

    I can say your plant does not look like an amazon sword or java fern, as I have both, so probably the crypt like you were thinking.

    Hi CL,
    Yeah, she wanted to get the "Spongebob" bubbler too : http://www.amazon.com/Spongebob-Blow...ngebob+aerator

    I talked her out of it...besides the cheapy plastic quality, the reviews weren't too good either....actually, to be perfectly honest, I'm the one who picked out that house bubbler and sold her on it......I thought it was kinda neat, and I wanted something animated...

    That "crypt" plant has been in that tank from the beginning, and it's a nice (paleish) green but kinda droopy...

    What are those "moss balls" we've seen at the pet store?....beneficial or gimmick?...what situations are they used in?

    Thanks again for everyone's interest in my 30 page "epic"...

    No problem with trying a moss ball. They're kind of fun. You just plop them in and they kind of sit there. Shrimp LOVE them. Some people will cut them up and put them in better than stock lighting to grow along driftwood, rocks and other decorations to create a moss cover over things.

    Hey everyone,
    I was reading the free e-book for beginners provided by this site and have a question about water changes/AC30 filter...I usually turn the bubbler and filter off by unplugging them during my wc's...the reason being with the filter, as the water level goes down when siphoning, the output from the filter will waterfall/cascade down from the top of the tank/filter , and I'm afraid this waterfall will injure/buffet the fish around and disturb my plants and substrate...I only leave the filter off long enough to get the tank filled back up, then I take a cup and add water to the filter before I turn it on to "prime" it...is this ok, or should I leave the filter running the whole time and let the water fall where it may?..I read in the e-book to only turn off the filter to clean it..I do have the tube extension from the filter, and the bottom of it does not come out of the water, even on 75% water changes...

    Any thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated...

    M-
