I personally use the python on my 10g, but its also next to my 55. I like it b/c it leaves options for more / bigger tank in the future

But you can add the dechlor into the 50% left in the tank right before you start to refill the tank (i actually pour it into the incoming stream so it mixes it well)

I agree for a 55 gallon but $40 when he only has a 10 gallon seems like more money to spend than necessary. He could have gotten the hand held one for $5-8.

I once intercepted someone in a fish store - she had a 10gal tank kit in one arm and had an employee ready to bag some fish for her. I said to her - you can't just buy a tank and plunk fish into it - they will probably die within 24hrs. I told her to google "cycling a fish tank" because I was new to this site & couldn't remember the name of it.

Some fish store employees are good & knowledgable - will advise on buying water conditioner, advise on proper filter size, tell you if a fish will get too large for the tank you're buying...but...most employees are there to bag fish & sell you things.

You will learn just like all of us did - hopefully with few fish deaths and you'll be a success story! : )

Thanks so much...experience is what we need to succeed in our first try at having fish as new pets....and I will appreciate all comments and suggestions here on this thread....

BTW, did our first 50% cycle today and all is well so far...the water even looks a bit clearer!...to clarify about our population as of now, we have four fish (2 mollies and 2 "plattys" (sp?) and 2 snails
