I don't like the look of that without a full length board to spread the weight of the tank. Not convinced.

I agree with firefly. My 55 gallon stand had a major brace in the centre. I would be worried every evening of hearing that cracking sound followed by water going over a ledge.
    Not something I would try.

No way, I would go that route with a 55g & I am not against cinderblock stands btw, I have a 90 and a 6' 100 on them right this second. [And they have been for years with no issues but they are supported all the way around the frame with 2x4s running the length of the tank]

The issue is this: Glass tanks need to be supported around the entirety of their frames perimeter.

    IMO, It's not optional.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Why pretend there are no stupid questions? Actually, There are many stupid questions: "Should I drink this bleach?" Is just one example.
Having said that, Just because it's a stupid question doesn't mean that it shouldn't be asked. It's better to know.

I think this would work for smaller tanks, but I wouldn't trust a larger or longer tank with no support in the middle.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

Run some pieces of board along the edges or a piece of 1" ply and you're in business.

Some glass tanks can be supported only at the corners. There was a fish store here that kept 55g, 75g and other sized tanks cinder block stands with no supports in the middle. Talked to the owner and he said he them on blocks for at least 10 years. For my personal tanks I would probably never take the chance.

Korith, unless there is an easy and fool proof way to tell which tanks need the support and which can be without I would be afraid to try as well. Does the owner know the difference? Just curious.

For the price of the blocks you would need to support a larger tank it would be cheaper to buy some 2x4's and a piece of 3/4' ply and make a stand that would be 10x stronger and would let you sleep at night.
