  1. Default Stocking a new 20G tank

    Hi everyone!

I just recently decided to get an aquarium again; I haven't had a tank since I was a kid with goldfish. I have a 2.5 gallon tank right now with two little zebra danios, but I decided to move up to a 20 gallon tank to give them a little space to zip. Waiting on the new tank to cycle now, looking for some opinions one stocking in the mean time. Here's what I'm thinking:
    -6 zebra danios
    -2 dwarf gouramis
    -6 cory cats
-1 snail if I start getting algae

Is that a reasonable load? I will likely get the danios first and wait a few weeks on the gouramis and corys, until the tank's better established. By the way, the tank is 24" wide, 12" deep and 16" high.

By the way, transferring small batches of water between my little 2.5G tank and my new 20G tank to get it to cycle faster before I move my danios -- good idea or bad idea?

Load is reasonable. Moving water is quite pointless. Crud from the bottom or your filter will do a lot more. Exchanging media does even more.

Don't add 2 Dwarf Gourami, they will end up fighting. Two in my 55 gallon was a bad idea. Even though the tank is a bit small for the danios (they like long tanks), I think everything else is ok

+1 to the above post. I wouldn't put two DGs in a 20gal. One might be ok - but gouramis are bullies.

How about endlers instead of danios?

Then get honey gourami instead of dwarf. Wimps compared to dwarfs.

Because? Schools are best for cories and he's got the room, just but he's got the room provided he doesn't chose one of the big species.

Especialy if he goes Panda Cory or the real small dwarf species.

Oh no, thanks! I'll go with one gourami then; I would hate to overstock and stress them out.
