    Default API nitrite test question??

    0 Not allowed!
Im testing for nitrites, there the last week its has read more then 5ppm. Now it starts at dark purple (5 ppm) i check at 5 min its about 1 ppm and after about 10 min it goes to light blue as in there is 0 ppm. Whats up with that. It never changed like that before. Am i fully cycled?

The API instructions say to wait 5 minutes and then read. The accurate reading will be at the 5 minute mark, not before or after. According to the results you have posted you still have 1ppm nitrite and the tank is not yet cycled. The good news is they are finally dropping and the tank should be cycled soon.
When I go fishing I just throw sharp rocks in the water and wait for the dead fish to float to the top... Kingfisher
Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Dear naps, sorry I hated you so much when I was a child... Love me

i am assuming you're doing a fishless cycle you're nitrAtes will be high when your done cycling and you're going to have to do large water change to get them down before you stock the tank, But for now don't change the water :)
