  1. Question Loach Compatibility

    0 Not allowed!
    Hello everybody!
I was wondering if somebody could please tell me what species (In a general sense, like catfish or mollies) are compatible with loaches that grow to be around 4-5 inches?
    Thanks,
    buddytrooper

What size tank is this for, or are you planning for?

I'm planning for a tank, so I don't know what size it will be yet. Since I want to have loaches (I love loaches) I need to know the sizes of the other fish that would go with them.

There are a myriad of species that are kept in aquaria. Thus there a too many incompatible as well as compatible species to mention. It would be helpful if you could come up with a species or genus and from there other members will be able to provide more input. Say you are looking for tetras to keep with the loaches, or for another species of bottom dweller. From there it would be easier to make suggestions. It also would help to know what type of loach. Loaches 4-5 inches long can range from gracile eel- forms to robust, high- backed species. Temperament can range from peaceful and sedate to boisterous even to semi aggressive.

Agreed, if you could narrow down what you desire/have access too, we can help stock around that.
some need bigger schools, others don't. some get over a foot long, some are aggressive, etc.

    too many variables.

by the way it sounds, you'll have to stock your tank AROUND this fish because of their compatibility.
i.e red tailed sharks dont mix with loaches. or rainbow sharks.
    that type of deal

I think he was talking about Black Kuhli Loaches, which get on with pretty much anything that's peaceful.

Buddy if it's Kuhli's you're talking about, you'd be able to mix them with a wide range of fish like mollies, guppies, tetras, rasbora, dwarf cichlids, etc. All dependant on tank size and pH/hardness, etc.

Clown loaches are very cool but only can be in HUGE fish tanks. Altho they are slow growers, they get very, very large and bulky so in your research, you can skip over that one.

I have found out that the only loaches in the area that I have access to are Polka Dot Loaches, Black Kuli Loaches, and Clown Loaches. Since I want smaller sized loaches I will be going with Black Kuli Loaches I guess. ameliaaahx already gave me info about Black Kuli Loaches so I think I'll be able to figure the exact compatible fish with some research. Thank you all!

These do not mix well with that red tail you want to get.
