    Question Red Tailed Catfish

    0 Not allowed!
    Hello everybody!
I am probably going to be stocking a new aquarium soon and I was hoping to have it include Red Tailed Catfish. I was wondering: it is okay to have multiple Red Tailed Catfish in the same tank?

Could somebody please also provide me with some extra info on Red Tailed Catfish?

I hope you have a really big tank.

Do you mean a red tail shark like the one in your avatar?
They are mean and territorial and grow to 5 inches in length.
Unless you have a massive tank with a lot of sight line breakers, caves, etc, a single redtail shark is the way to go.

The OP did specify red tail catfish.

If you did in fact mean red tail shark I would not advise more than one in a tank.

If you keep them in something larger than 55 gallons, you could keep some other top to mid dwelling semi aggressive fish with them like tiger barbs. I would not advise keeping any other bottom dwellers as the red tail will almost definitely pick fights, to the demise of the other bottom dwellers or to itself.

While having two in a large well planted tank may work I have never found this to be the case. They are active fish that WILL find each other.

To me that species is just not worth it. You need tons of room and it's a very anti-social species.
