70's Themed Dog in progress
That Fish Place is havin a 70's themed dog contest where the grand prize is $100 gift card!!! It shall be during the Anniversary Sale April 13&14. So me and my wonderful dog Paddy are going all out for this, because we want to win.
My research into 70's fashion says that tie dye was still big. I can do that. So i looked up some techniques and decided rainbow swirl was easy. So i began to make a shirt. I forgot to take pictures of this journey.
Ok, so first step, i found an old white shirt of mine. Hard to do, im not big on white. But, i found one and got out the white thread and the scissors and began to make a shirt.
1. Measured Paddy around body, cut excess off of shirt to make it skinny enough.
2. Measured Paddy around neck, cut excess off neck of shirt to make neck smaller (it was a wide neck v-neck shirt).
3. Measured length and where private parts were. Cut off bottom front of shirt so it didnt interfere there, shortened back to proper length.
4. Sewed it back together along where it was cut. Yay, perfect fit dog shirt! He loves his new shirt.
Now i tie dye. We made easter eggs yesterday, so there was my dye. The technique i used was wet shirt, flatten, and spin into pinwheel kind of shape and band it together so it doesnt lose shape. Then direct application pour on dye rather than dipping. I made quite a mess, but luckily i was in the sink, so it was all good.
After pouring dye. Now i let sit overnight rolled up like this. Paper towels are smart to put under it so that the leaching dye doesnt make a puddle and ruin shirt.
Im nowhere near professional and here is my finished product. This morning i unwrapped it and allowed it to lay flat to dry. When its done drying we will heat set the dye with an iron or the dryer on high heat because thats how you do it with easter egg dye im told. More coming of my other steps of 70's dog making as i get my other materials. Will definitely post pic of dog wearing shirt when shirt is dry. White dog + wet dyed shirt = two weeks of tie dyed dog.
