That's no doubt the excuse goldfish bowl owners use. Survival is no indicator of optimum welfare.

Pretty sure I said physically survive and thrive. Goldfish cannot get to their full size and thrive in a bowl. But an inch long dwarf puffer can physically survive in 4 gallons if that is enough territory to keep it entertained and stress free. It might of sounded weird the way I said it but I hope you understand what I mean now.

Of course. No worries, I understand. I just don't agree with you.

Obviously if the fish shows signs of stress or the tank parameters aren't staying in control, I will upgrade. It's not a matter of being unwilling to do so, I just really feel he will be fine and most likely thrive in the four gallon as long as I plant it heavily.

Bought a java moss ball for the tank today. Will get an updated clearer picture of the tank tomorrow.

Also got a few snails and put them in my betta tank, hopefully they will breed and I'll have lots of little snails for the puffer once I get him. The tank is still cycling. Ammonia is off the charts right now and the Nitrite is starting to rise.

In for updates. I love small tanks. I hope the puffer deal works out.

Remember that you want ammonia to be no more than 1 or 2ppm during the nitrite phase. It shouldn't be off the charts. Are you adding too much?
