will 5000k lighting be good for plants or should i search for 6500k'

I have always had best results with 6700K lighting. I would suggest getting as close to that as you can findIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Yea, if you are looking for the cfls I have seen a few online websites that carry exact color ranges. I just did a mix, I have 108w over my 55 with 8 bulbs. 4 of them I think are 5000K and another 4 are 6500K. I just wanted a mix, best results have been found with the 6700K bulbs. But I think you still can get good growth being close to it
