Thread: Snail Death?

Well I did a 60% wc on both my 10 gallons last night and the lights stayed on for a good 4 hours after the wc so I know the snails and my fish were okay. I was sure to add prime and make sure the water was the correct temperature however this morning I found a dead snail. What is even more odd is that the snail itself was gone. The shell was completely empty... How could this even happy? I have a blue gourami in the same tank do you think the snail could've died and then my gourami ate its body? It seems pretty improbably.. The snail was smaller than a marble and my gourami is a 4 inch long, almost blind lummox. It's just really weird.. All the snails were healthy and accounted for the night before. I tested for copper and got nothing, came out to 0ppm.. Does anyone have any clue as to why I lost this snail??

What species of snail was it? How old was it? Anything else in the tank besides the gouramis?
I've lost a few snails unexpectedly. We don't seem to notice symptoms in them before they die like we usually do with fish.300 gallon mega tank: sailfin pleco, clown loaches, silver dollars, roseline sharks, congo tetras, new world cichlids
125 gallon office tank: Africian cichlids, synodontis catfih
75 gallon community tank: bolivian rams, black skirt tetras, dwarf neon rainbowfish, corys, harlequin rasboras, otos, bristlenose and bulldog plecos, assassin snails, various shrimp
60 gallon goldfish tank: fancy goldfish
