Thread: Zebra danios from Petsmart

Unlike others the danios in my area are looking pretty nice and thriving well. I will say when I get fish from Petsmart there are only 2 employees that if I want to buy they have to be there or not matter how good a deal I'll pass--many of the clerks are entirely too rough and get frustrated too quickly chasing down the quicker fish (like danios and otos).
I guess it was last year a girl nabbed a young danio for me; it was in with the zebras and kind of looked like them except the stripes were more like spots~turned out to be a longfinned leopard daino~and she's a beauty now29: Zebra Danios, Black Skirt Tetras, CAE

Three questions -
1) Would the leopard danios and my 2 zebras school together?
2) Same question re long-finned zebras - will they school with my 2?
2)If I were going to consider a leopard danio, I would have to have my LFS order them. They get their shipment in on Thursdays - if I ordered the leopards, could I pick them up right in the bag they were shipped in and avoid the "try to net the danio" problem? I do drip acclimation over a 2 hour period.
Went to petsmart and petco today and looked at the fish as if I were going to make a purchase. Petsmart has regular and long-finned zebra danios, who all looked very healthy, in clean tanks (and no dead fish).
Petco had several dead fish in various tanks, so they are out of the running. Really sad to see that no one was checking the tanks.

The longfinned Zebras will schools with the regular ones no problem. Leopards and Zebras will school together but are realy only happy in schools of their own.Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

I have 6 celestial pearl danios in with my 3 zebras and they all school, hang out together. I love the activity of them, and they are so fun to watch.

This past Saturday I purchased 6 long-finned zebra danios from Petsmart. They look very healthy and are really good looking fish. The more I watch them, the more I like them (same thing happened with my scissortails). They are in my 10 gal QT and will be going into my 75 on 4/13. They are doing great - this morning they demolished their breakfast of bloodworms, probably the first time they ever had them.
The girl at my Petsmart caught them quite easily - I was very impressed. She even knew about drip acclimation and a QT. I think this will be a very different experience than the one I had with the first unfortunate danios back in December.
Question: the bio media from my 75 gal that I am using in the QT - can I put that back in the 75 if the quarantined fish are healthy at the end of 2 weeks or is it better to discard it?

Danios seem to be the kind of fish that grow on you, at least for me. Glad you're happy with your purchase!

After my 30% PWC yesterday, I added PraziPro to my QT (no problems, just as a preventative/just-in-case). The 6 danios are doing great and will be going in the 75 this coming Sunday.
Question: the filter on my 10 gal QT is an AC30, with bio media and sponge. Being that I will be discarding the QT water, do I need to use carbon to remove the meds from the bio media and sponge prior to discarding the water - or will just cleaning them in tap water do the trick? Also, after cleaning the bio media, can I put it back in my main tank or is it best to discard it?
Can't wait to add the danios to my 75 gal. They are really nice looking and I am anticipating my 2 survivors will be very happy to be in a school of 8.
