What plant is this?
I got a few plants when I purchased my tank. I'm trying to figure out what this is, as I really like it, and would like to get some more.

It is called "tiger lotus" in the aquarium trade, and is a tropical water lily. In certain times of year it will grow longer stems with lily pads and might even flower.

What I thought, but I wasn't sure.
I'm going to have to get some more of these.
Thank you.

They are a lovely plant but I'm not too sure how well they will do in gravel. You may want to wait a bit and see how this one does first. They tend to be a little pricey.

Thanks Lady, I'll do that.
On a side note, I have some plant substrate from the old setup still. Do you think I could put a layer of it under the gravel? Keep it from spreading all over the tank? Would definitely make WC's difficult.

it might be a young tiger lotus plant or it could be a nymphaea stellata.
they have pale leaves like that but generally don't have many dark red blotches, if any at all.

If you want to keep it as a short submersed plant you will need to trim off any of the longer stems that go towards the surface. These usually require a somewhat fertile substrate. I would advise planting it in a container with a finer substrate that you can fertilize.
