  1. Default Neon Tetras dying

    0 Not allowed!
Hi, I'm a very new person to this and I have a few queries. Please help me!

I have small aquarium of 12 gallon tank and I have:

6 neon tetras (3 of them died)
    2 Silver Moony (Mono angels)
    2 red-tailed sharks
    4 Rosy barbs

    2 base filters
    1 spray bar
    Artificial plants

I was really wondering why 3 of my neon tetras died and if i replace the tetras with Cichilds will they stay with the rest of the fish??

    Thank you!

I suspect your issue has to do with the stock you have chosen for the size tank you have. In particular you have two fish that can grow up to 12 inches, and 2 other fish that can grow up to 8 inches.

What are your water parameters? (Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate)

I'm sure Trillianne is correct. Sounds like an overstocking issue.

I have no idea about water parameters. I only got a ph meter from a friend which says my water ph is 8.2

I'm sorry that I cannot be of any help for you guys....

So, regarding the stock issue - what are you suggesting? :-) But I really do not want to keep neon tetras anymore :-(

    Thank you so much!

I'd advise you to get a test kit that measures Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate first, and look at the stickies and ebook about cycling.

As for stocking, you have the option of either buying a tank for the fish you want to keep and keeping those fish, or buying the fish for the tank you have. In either case, your best bet is to find what fish you like, and research each of them for what their needs are and how big they grow before proceeding.

Mono angels: 11 inch tall, needs brackish as they mature, marine species eventually. Whoever sold you that should be prosecuted for cruelty to animals
Red tailed shark: 6 inches, extremely territorial to others

What are your tank dimensions? Beginning to see the problem? Here's a rule of thumb for you, tank length should be at least 6 times fish length, 10 times for active swimmers.

Now, combine that with the fact that you are likely a beginner who has not yet learned about cycling and proper maintenance.

Ideally, start over, here's a few options: http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Stock...10_Gallon_Tank
