Hydor Koralia power heads attach by means of a magnet. Power head in the tank, magnet on the outside of the tank. They are very versatile in placement. I have a couple of 425 and a couple of 750's. The 750's really move the water in my 55 gallon.
The only thing I have noticed with my older 750 is when I have it on a wave maker it runs back wards the odd time it starts. The new models have been fixed.

A sump set-up with a return pump would remedy this problem. Then add a power head to move that water down stream. Just a thought.

I'm keeping it simple with a set up that has the flow going only one way to mimic a river as best as possible. To do this I'm setting up a system of PVC pipe like in this article http://www.loaches.com/articles/rive...ank%20manifold. For this I have to use a power head that I can connect to a piece of pvc.

    What about a Maxijet?

If you're talking about Marineland maxijet then I just looked at one today and am thinking about using them. Anybody of experience with them and have thoughts on how they would work in my set up?

I've never used them in a set-up like you are talking about, but I have used them in other applications and I really do like the maxijet pumps

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Quick update! I've got all power heads, lights and have a plan for the intake sponge. Just need to get a heater to keep the tank at a steady 70 degrees as the room its going to be in changes temperature quite a bit (the joys of a cheep apartment) and the tank in a few weeks and I'll be ready to start set up.

Thanks to a $1 per gallon sale and a sale on stands I got the tank and stand for 50 percent off! I'll post pictures in the morning and by Thursday or Friday I'll have the manifold done and running. I'll start of using pond filter material for the sponge and see how that works. I'm looking for a canister filter anyone have suggestions for a good reasonable price?

Eheim 2213 or 2215. Mount the spraybar over the water and you;ll have solved your oxygen challenge.

You should be able to get a Rena XP2 at a good price as well. Mount the spray bar as already suggested above and in the dirction of your river flow and you should be set.

I'm looking forward to seeing some pics
