  1. Default Thermometer Recommendations

Let me start off by saying I am new to the hobby and this is my first tank.

My tank is a 29 Gallon. I bought a combo pack containing the hood/light/heater/filter /thermometer/tank. The thermometer that came with the tank is a Regent sticky thermometer. It typically reads between 76-80 with all intervals lit up at once. It is firmly stuck to the glass, has never been moved, and the glass underneath was cleaned before application. I am keeping freshwater tropical peaceful community. Currently I have 5 Green Cobra Guppies.

I am interested in purchasing a new thermometer because I am worried this one is inaccurate. To the touch my water feels like it is a higher temp than the readout indicates. Any thermometer recommendations would be helpful.

I prefer the old fashioned glass ones that go into the tank

those are basically the only ones i wouldnt recommend. they NEVER read the correct temp. go out to your LFS and spend 3$ max on a red alcohol thermometer. they are good for the price and if you arent keeping anything too sensitive they are great. or you could invest the 10$ for a digital one

I ordered one off of Amazon and I should have it Thursday. For now I am going to go with my instinct and lower the temperature a little. Thanks for the advice!

I've always just used the cheap. $1-2 thermometers that stick to the glass with a suction cup. I do have one digital one. Thermometers are +/- a few degrees at most, which is good enough for me.

Mine are all glass ones. Old fashioned - but don't require a battery at least.
