A Fresh Start
Over my break from Aquatic Community, I've read a few books and researched some topics on cycling tanks in general. My new plan is to purchase a 75 gallon tank, an EHEIM Ecco 2236 canister filter, and 10 rosy red minnows along with 150 lbs. of river gravel. This 75 gal will be connected via tubing to a 10 gallon refugium filled with aquatic plants, which is then connected to another 10 Gallon tank with the filter. The water is then returned to the main 75g.
Is this a good setup so far?
P.S. How's it been everyone? :)10 Gallon: 5 Peppered Corys | Pool Filter Sand | x2 AquaTech 5-15 Power Filter | 2 plastic plants

Id have the filter (if it mechanical) first to remove all the detridus. Otherwise your planted tank will look rather messy. I generally dont go for lbs of gravel but 1-2 inches of substrate.
My 210 gallon reef tank only needs 80 lbs of live sand to achieve this. So in assuming your shooting for 4 inch gravel bed.
Caution with deep gravel beds if you dont clean them regularly due to nitrogen air bubbles causing a tank crash.

Sounds like a interesting set-up. I have read about others successfully having a similar style set-up as yours. There are a few examples on you-tube as well/
If your planning a journel, I will certainly look forward to reading it.
What type of plants are you thinking about for the refugium and are you also planning the main tank to be planted ?

Top Fin® 75g Aquarium Hood Combo = $235
EHEIM Classic External Canister Filter Model 2215 = $150
x7 Top Fin® River Gravel (10lb.) = $77
Fluval Submersible Glass Heater = $34
I might be able to achieve this via saving money (as I currently don't have a job). For the journal, should I make one (my older one wouldn't work a while back, so I just quit at trying to put an entry in) or not? Right now, I have eight Rosy Red Minnows in a 10g tank which doesn't even have a hood. (I accidentally killed my last fish that I had for over 6 months by overheating a small 1/2g spare tank while trying to clean the main one.)
My future DT might be planted. I'll have to read up on the plants I want. Do you recommend any beginner plants for my planned 75g?10 Gallon: 5 Peppered Corys | Pool Filter Sand | x2 AquaTech 5-15 Power Filter | 2 plastic plants
