Hahaha! You guys make me laugh! :) I won't be shooting in the house, that's for darn sure!!! Just to be safe I'll make sure not to shoot anywhere near the house either. Lol!!!
Oh, this isn't the only gun I've ever shot. My husband has a KingSport Semi-automatic .22 with a scope and custom long barrel. I love it! It was the first gun I ever learned to shoot at like age 7.
Along with my gun yesterday, my husband also got a Remington 30.06 to replace the one he traded for my tank -- then we have a boolt action .22 Rifle, a shot gun, and a 30.30. I'm not sure the brand on the 30.30 though, even though I bought the thing.....
Anyway, my gun is my protection gun. I'll have it close by my bed most likely. The fact that I have to do all that stuff manually -- loading, pulling back the hammer -- makes me feel safer about using it. Don't get me wrong, I like semi-autos, just for me PERSONALLY I trust myself MORE with this type. Know what I mean?
I'm getting ready to take it to my Dad's house to show off a lil more. :) The hubs is already looking into getting me a holster -- KY is an open carry state!130g: 7 Angelfish, 1 Bolivian, 17 Neon Tetras, 14 Serpae Tetras, 9 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Otocinslus, ? Ghost Shrimp
I've noticed that people HATE it when you point out how stupid they are, so now I try to do it politely.

JEALOUS lol. I mainly want my permit so that my girlfriend when home alone can be protected, my 12 gauge kinda knocks her over, and my vicious mean guard doberman would show the intruder where the money and jewels are if he scratched behind her ear and offered her kisses lol

Now... don't take this as a political statement because it's not intended as such.. I just enjoy being amazed at how different cultures can be. (and how all of us are united by a passion for aquaria)
Over here you'd have to explain the whole concept of open carry. And once you got that message across you'd find a totally bewildered person. Common person's attitude here is such that they'd make the Brady Campaign people look like the NRA.
Anyway... go for a leather holster for that gun Mandy. It will look nicer and be better in the summer heat.
Perhaps consider a 28 gauge then? An over/under should be possible with a bit of training. My 33 gallon/125 liter tank. My photography on flickr.

In addition to the above suggestion, you could also consider a 20 gauge. They do seam easier to find than a 28 gauge and the shells for a 20 gauge are less expensive. At least this is the case were I live. You still get a pretty good range with 1/2 the kick
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

That I didn't know. Over here 28 is way for small fowl hunters to show off how good a shot they are.

Yea, she claims she is a little Annie Oakley with the 10-22 but I have yet to see it ;)
And I also had to google who Annie Oakley was, to save you some time, she was an old show girl in the late 1800s that was a trick shooter with a 2255g: DG, 5 GBR, 4 Oto, 6 Sterbai, 4 Platies, RCS

Def checking into leather. :) Thanks for the suggestion.
Ya know, I doubt I'll be carrying the thing to town (even though it's legal). If I head out into the woods or horse riding I'll probably take it. Quite a few Bobcats and even bears here, not to mention there are some CRAZY people in these hills..... I kid you not. I worry about my husband when he walks the woods. Some crazy person might take a notion to shoot him if he strays from our property.
I'll feel better if I'm here alone with my 3 year old, esspecially at night. I've just gotta figure out a SAFE place to put it.... A place where my son won't be messing with it or find it, but also a place that I can easily get to and have it loaded.
We shall see. Thanks for all the feedback you guys! It's nothing fancy, but as it's my first, I'm super proud of it.130g: 7 Angelfish, 1 Bolivian, 17 Neon Tetras, 14 Serpae Tetras, 9 Kuhli Loaches, 1 Otocinslus, ? Ghost Shrimp

Err... not sure if I should mention this but... with bears and bobcats a few shots in the air are probably better than actually aiming at them.
As to the child, I seem to recall various brands of gun safes, designed for quick access by adults. My 33 gallon/125 liter tank. My photography on flickr.
