Need an algae eater

Yea, the 29 is an upgrade from a 20. I know ill have to upgrade again, maybe when its 6 inches or so.

So I guess ill do a 90% water change and just clean all the algae off the surfaces. Hopefully it isn't anything toxic that's slowly killing my JD.

Not likely to be toxic algae. But yes, could be something else. Always tricky to determine. Say... what's the decor like?

A black flowerpot and a cave that feels like its made of resin or hard plastic and a golf ball and a few hardy plants. Im not 100% eliminating that the JD killed them, but I doubt it. He didn't mind them being in there and he kept to himself. He stayed at the front glass and did his usual "hungry dance" haha. So should I change all the water out and scrub the decor? Its not anything I can detect in tests, but I use well water, so it could be other things I suppose.

I had the same problem in my 60gal. community tank. Diatoms from a new tank..... after cycling and adding fish they were still there so I was recommended 4 zebra snails and a SAE between them they removed everything in about 4 days. Now I just supplement with food and algae pellets now and then as I have no algae in the tank. I took one snail out and put it in my 10 gal Betta tank and it is now cleaning it out. With a 29 gal. you prob only need 2 snails. I'm not sure if your Dempsey will stress the snails or not better check that out too.
I'm no expert just a novice but this worked for me.
