Greetings!
Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I've been lurking for a while now, just reading articles and forum posts on the wonderful world of aquatics. My name is Michael. I'm a husband to a beautiful wife and a father to a wonderful 10 month old boy. My wife describes me as "A man of many interests and hobbies." I'm never sure if I should take that as a compliment or not...but I am what I am!
Recently fish life and aquatics grabbed my attention, and I've been absolutely hooked since. Growing up I had the typical Goldfish tank. Unlike other stories I've heard, I actually kept my fish alive for a decent amount of time. I also had a small Betta tank for three years in college before my little guy got some serious ick and moved on to the big tank in the sky.
My hope is to test the waters (unintentional pun) and see where it leads me. If my earlier "man of many interests" comment concerned you as to my commitment and follow through when starting new things, worry not. Unfortunately for my wife, they all seem to stick around and get added to the list of life long habits. So I do plan on being in this for the long run once I start.
That's where AC comes into play. From what I've been reading, reading is exactly what I need to be doing. Which fall right into what I typically do anyway. Research some, then some more, and then when I have enough information, continue researching until I've convinced myself that I'm not qualified to do it. Then, with much fear and trepidation, I begin whatever it is I set out to do in the first place. So I'm sure you'll be seeing many questions from me as I progress toward my tank goal. Hopefully I'll go about it in the right way, not offend or frustrate anyone with my questions, and become an active part of this community. Thanks for having me!

Sounds like your enthusiastic enough!! Glad to have you here!!
Best way to start out in the hobby nowadays is to read the "Fishless Cycling thread" in the beginners section.
That is the main hurdle people fall down at, and its pretty simple if you follow the instructions. Anyway i look forward to seeing you post!!
My therapist says I need a bigger tank . . . . .

I remember when my oldest was 10 months old. Very tiring period.
Yeah, research. From the nitrogen cycle to ph and buffering capability to habitats and species.
I've been in the hobby on and off since the mid 1980s and I still learn something almost every day.My 33 gallon/125 liter tank. My photography on flickr.

Hello and welcome.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.
