I never see him eat and is very lethargic. but its been that way for months. I expected a death a long time ago but he lingers. Not sure what to do about it.

I did a search for Chinese Algae Eaters and shrinking (and came up with your comment) because my CAE is definitely shrinking. I have a 75 gal tank and only a few small catfish and a Pleco. Practically has the tank to himself. But the last few days he is shriveling--the best way I can describe him! His whole body has lost its round girth and is now shrunken in. Am not sure how long these guys live but I have had him approximately 9 years, I think. He has outlived the other 2 CAE I had in there with him. His face looks skinny! I don't know if he is dying from old age or what the problem is. The others in the tank seem OK. Have never seen a fish do this before.
