  1. Default Tank size for stocklist

Hi everyone, I have done a lot of research since my last thread and gained a lot of knowledge from the people who answered in my previous thread so firstly i would like to say thank you too them.

I have an idea of the stock i want in my tank and here it is:

    8-10 neon tetras
    1-2 golden apple snails
    3-4 red cherry shrimp

I would also like to have some java fern, java moss and maybe some anubias as the live plants

There problem i have is that i'm not quite sure of the tank size i should get however i am restricted to something that is 55cm wide and 40-45cm in depth

I have found quite a few that I like but I'm not sure which one would be the best for my intended stock, here are some examples:
    http://fishkeeper.co.uk/site/product...ewter-23-litre
    http://fishkeeper.co.uk/site/product...lack-46-litres
    http://fishkeeper.co.uk/site/product...me-25-aquarium
    http://fishkeeper.co.uk/site/product...k-aquarium-set

    Thanks for your time

just my opinion but i would get the biggest one that would fit . then get ready to find room for an even bigger one .
ask ?'s and change some water pair of JD's and loving it.

  3. Default

I agree. Get the biggest you can cause you'll want a bigger one once you get it all set up.

If you can get a tank that is 55cm x 40cmx 45cm I think that is roughly 100liters, 25 gallons, which isn't a bad size for the stock you are considering. I suggest a long one over a tall one, the neons will appreciate the swimming room.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

i understand your point but i am not planning on adding to the amount of fish . Also i want the tank to look good in the room and go well with it. For example if the 25 litre example i gave is more than enough room to keep me stock perfectly happy and healthy then i would go for that as it looks better and would fit better with the rest of the room than the 46 litre example. The main priority is the well being of the stock so if the smaller yet more astecticly pleasing tanks would mean they stock would not be perfectly healthy and happy then obviously i would go with the bigger tanks

ok thanks ill make the length the main priority of the tank

Of the 4 links you supplied I would stay away from the first 2 because that style of tank is really hard to clean. Algae and routine substrate vacuuming is tough. If those are your choices due to stock available, I would get number 4. That being said, see if you can fit a 16 gallon tall in that space, I prefer a longer tank so the fish have room to swim, tall is only for the water volume if all else fails. Bigger is always better as you have heard and read. Maybe it's time to get a smaller Chesterfield so your new 120 litre tank has a place to sit. hehehe
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Haha i wish that was an option strider :P
my original plan was to place my tarantula vivarium on the proposed aquarium location and place the aquarium on a bench but this isn't possible because i'm not sure how much weight the bench can take, I dare not stand on it to test it so i would rather not place an aquarium on it

If 46 liters is the biggest you can fit then I wouldn't get the neons, they do ok in that size but a proper sized school would prefer more room. If that's the biggest you can get then I suggest looking into galaxy rasbora or chili rasbora for your stock.
