If you want something special you'll have to get your shop to special order or use aquabid.

As i said above tank size for fish depends on their size and their activity. Tbh i dont know too much about picus, but if they are super active i wouldnt doubt that being the min foot print... You didnt like the look of the porthole cat?

Yea, people say they are active and like to be in groups so i think thats that idea out the window for sure.
the porthole catfish seems dull (brown/bronze?) only pictures i could find of them anyway, and i would like something slightly more rare so i think my best bet is to just get a huge tank and then do some proper research into it?
thanks for your help though, much appreciated :)

Proper research is always a good idea. Good luck with the project, look forward to see what your research leads to.

Bumblebee catfish is a cool little booger. I had one for A LONG time, very small but fun to watch when he is out an about. Petsmart sells them seasonally but petsolutions has them in stock right now!

Look at whip tail catfish and royal farlowella. They are both sucker catfish but really cool and don't hide as much as the banjo and some plecos.
If you want active, school of cory will be bestCheck out my 55 Gallon, planted, Philly themed community tank! Rummynose and Cardinals, dwarf cichlids, plecos, shrimps
