so i need some heaters for my tank. my poor shrimp have been without a heater for a few weeks cause ive been broke. now that i have my tax return coming ill be able to buy up several heaters (some back ups). and i was wondering what brands are good. i know jager is good but a bit expensive for my smaller tanks, and im reading mixed reviews about visa therm. aquatop is very affordable for me but noting small enough for my 10gs and i think ive heard good things here. has any one heard of via aqua? i can get them cheap enough and small enough for my 10g's, and the reviews on pet mountain doesnt have much bad to say.

    so recap,

jager is out of my budget this time
visa therm im hearing mixed fealing
aquatop thinking of getitng for my 20 and spares
via aqua im thinking for my 10's and an extra.

    thanks for your input

How are the prices on fluval for you? Did you look online at jager prices? Personally I'd rather spend a few euros more on my main heater and when I looked at amazon the last time I got the impression that's all the price difference was.

yea F&S just had a sale on their jagers that i missed and im kicking myself for not having the spare budget. i love my 2 jagers in my main tank. just need a good heater for my shrimp, qt, and a spare atm if the jager go back down in price when i have the $ i plan on snapping up several just to have but i was wondering about those last 2 brands. the aquatop seems good but it has mixed reviews like visa therm....

I have a couple aquatops and they are okay. The suction cups they come with arent the greatest though. There is a 50w adjustible on amazon (I have it) and it is usually $10. Depending on how much you plan on spending total there is also the Hagen Elite heaters that are pretty cheap on kensfish (but you have to spend 100 to get free shipping there). I also have one of the hagens and like it well enough. My favorite heater is my aqueon proheater since I cant break it.

I am happy with my aqua top heaters. Good quality IMO

I've heard people complain about them but I've had great luck with the Fluval M heaters. Can't beat the cost.

I just got an aquatop heater, for one of my quarantine tanks. Set it to 80 and plugged it in. Came home from work to find the fish all dead. Seems they couldn't handle the 105 degree water very well. And the heater was still working!

Amazon is sending a replacement - since it is for doing heat treatments for new fish, I'm willing to take another chance. But there is no way I would trust one on a show tank, if I ever had to use a heater in them.

Rough to hear that. sorry it ended that way for you.

That's another reason why whenever I set up a QT, or new heater-i make sure i'll be in the house for the next few hours to keep checking the temps. I've always been paranoid about cooking them.

    +1 to the above

I also like to test my heaters for a while before putting them on a set-up I have invested time and money into, as well as the living animals in my aquariums.
