  1. Question Do Cory Cats require a hetero pair to spawn?

So I've been noticing one of my three bronze corys getting really fat and acting erratic for the past few days and then today I caught it laying some eggs on the back wall of my tank. Do corys require a hetero pair to spawn or will a female do it on her own if the conditions are right?
Generalized Amazon Biotope 36 gal with:
    2 Whip Tail Plecos
    11 Cardinal Tetras
    12 Golden Pencil Fish
    3 Bronze Corys
    2 Wild Type Angelfish
    Current Plants:
Cabomba, Giant Amazon Sword, Narrow Leaf Java, Dwarf Hair Grass, Jungle Val, moss on driftwood

  2. Default

Cories don't spawn in the fashion of most other fish, where males and females release milt and eggs at the same time. The egg has been fertilized before hand and only deposited afterwards.

  3. Default

So for my female to even get to the egg laying part, a male has already done his business. Meaning that cory's DO require a hetero pair. No false pairing like angelfish?
