yea i understand you. I've seen quite a few reviews saying the bulbs are hard to find and that there is issues with the filter etc, its not the ideal set up i want and if i did have the time and money i would research and build a set up tailored specifically to my inhabitants needs but until then i will just have to make lemonade out of lemons :)

I have the 120 litre version of that tank. I swapped out the moon light for another day light and got an oversize cannister for filtration. A few stick on LED lights and I have a great planted set-up.

have you had any problems with the tank? I'm guessing any flaws/problems would be present in both versions

No. The only issue I had was the lights...very limiting in the large version I have (hence the fantastic LED stickies). Bulbs are available on Amazon. Shouldn't be an issue in the smaller one. I've read criticism in reviews about weak hinges on the lid but mine is still ok (and I'm careful with it).

What I really like about it is the rolled edges.

Oh, good, sounds like it will make a good beginner tank for me then, I'll have to keep any eye on it at my local shop incase it goes on sale

Unfortunately all i have that is close to me is a small shop of a large pet shop chain and all they have are set ups like the one I'm looking at and the aquatic stores that are out there (30mins-1hour drive) have no reviews or anything so i have no idea whether they are good or bad. There used to be a really good aquatic store literally 2 minutes walk from where i live but that closed down a few years back :(

I had nine neon tetras and an apple snail in a planted ten gallon and it looked and worked great!

If the place that sells you shrimp and snails is local to you, then they are likely dealing with the same/similar water conditions. Perhaps ask them if the trace copper has been an issue.

I still think you should get the betta and cories though! That's what I have in my ten gallon now, so I'm biased, of course. The cories are out all the time and are so much fun to watch. The betta swishes about majestically. (I've moved my neons + 15 to a twenty gallon long and added a second apple snail.)

I would love to have a betta like the one i had when i was younger, it was a very deep red and was very active. I do think having a decent size school of neons, and a good size clean up crew of shrimp and snails will be enough for a 10gallon, i think it would be a little bit crowded if i added a betta into that. I'd rather sacrifice appearance and have healthy, stress free inhabitants with plenty of room.

Oh no! I'm not suggesting that you add the betta in with the neons. I don't think that would work at all. I was pushing the idea of betta + cories in place of neons + snail + shrimp. :-) (I have tanks with both configurations and I know that they're both lovely.)
