Anyone knowledgeable about the Java Rice finch?
I have two java finches (supposedly a pair) that have a not-so-good relationship. Whenever they get nervous or scared they seem to get aggressive with each other. I don't know how long they've been together, or how old they are as I got them from someone else. I just know one of them came from a breeder, and the other was from a pet store. They came with a finch cage like the one Petco sells. It's not horribly small, but with the branches currently in it, they don't fly; just hop from branch to branch. I'm going to move them into my bigger cage soon, hoping that will ease some of their tension. The previous owner said they wouldn't breed for her. I know there's a lot of factors that could be the cause of that; one of which I'm about to remedy. They may not even be a true pair. If they truly are a male and female, is it possible that they are particular in choosing their mate, and they just might not like each other? I had other finches in the past, but not Javas; and from what I've read so far they can be particular birds. Anyone, with knowledge or advice would be awesome.

We also had a pair...I loved them...beautiful birds...but other than that, can't be of much help. Our pair (I think they were the same sex) got along fine.
They can use as big a flight cage as you can find for them though...55 g Goldfish Tank - 3 Fancies, 2 Comets
25 g Tropical Tank - Celestial Pearl Danio/Mixed

Got no experience with keeping birds for myself other than parrots and budgies, but i have worked with quite some birds in my life and still i can't quite tell what's going on.
The only things i can tell you is try moving them to a larger cage, if this doesn't work try to add more so they can pair up for themselves but i don't know if you got the room for this.
