Top level community fish??

Hi, I am stocking a 26 gallon freshwater tropical community tank and I was thinking of corys for the bottom layer, and neon tetras and/or endlers livebearer's and/or glass catfish for the mid level, but what fish would be suitable for top level swimmers for this tank? I also am thinking of maybe housing red cherry shrimp so could you also let me know if the suggestions ae shrimp safe, thanks! :)

Hatched fish swim pretty much exclusively on the top. they'd be a nice size to go with your other stock.

Same goes for pencilfish. Both will not do well at all in bare tanks, they want some plants that reach the surface and/or some floating plants.

Both Hatchets and Pencilfish are good Ideas but you could also use Harlequin rasboras or any of the Trigonostigma familey.

Trigonostigma aren't top dwellers.

Well okay they are not "exclusive" to the top but they stay in the upper part.

Be careful on any top dweller as they are normally jumpers. If you just want something that swims near the top, marble hatchets are a favorite of mine. Do not get glass catfish as they require heavier current and spot feeding that isnt appealing long term. However if you are up for that challenge, maybe wait a bit and get your tank established and add a school.
