Flame Tetra
Here is another very good begginer fish that does not get the attention it should.
Hyphessobrycon flammeus also called the Von Rio tetra, stays small 1.5", hardy and peaceful. They don't always show their best colors when kept in a dealers tank so get overlooked for their more colorful cousins, the Serpae and in more recent years the Red phantom. Put them in a well planted tank with subdued lighting and you have a living jewel.
Although they do best in soft acid water, they acclimate well to higher pH. As with most tetras, keep them in as big a school as you can. Six are recomeneded but they do best in a dozen or more IME. They are one of the easier tetras to spawn but I have never realy tried to save the eggs in my community tanks.
There is an orange color-morph that is gaining popularity and a yellow version I have not seen, but I still prefer the original type.
These are considered "old favorites" but I feel they still have a place in any community tank or S. American bio-type. You can't go wrong.
Like I said they usualy don't look that good in dealers tanks but this video shows them off pretty well.
