  1. Default Setting up a new 90G freshwater tank

My 14 year old daughter Anna, and myself, are setting up a 90G tank. She currently has a 20G on her dresser, so this is our first big tank. It's been a fun project so far. We have the tank and stand bought. We picked it up locally off Craigslist. It was previously a saltwater reef setup. I have removed the overflow, but will be using the two bottom bulkheads for a clean canister installation.

The first order of business was to prepair a home for the tank. My basement is drywalled, but not finished. Last week I got it mudded, and today I got it painted. Anna wanted a "Sea Blue". All I can say is Wow! Lol. I also managed to get all the tank plumbing mostly done today was well. I'll be drilling an air bleed in the top of the return line. When I want to do a PWC, I'll simply plug that hole and open the drain. Tomorrow I'll be running the drain line and painting the pipes in the tank black.

I use the same canister on my 65g as well as an internal filter. It's a good canister, if a little difficult to prime.

Looking good so far, it appears like you know what you're doing. A couple things to watch out for is the type of paint you use on the pipes, make sure it isn't toxic. Also, and I'm sure most of the members on here would agree with me is to use Prime to treat and dechlorinate your water. Don't forget to cycle your tank!

Great choice on the air pump btw, you won't be disappointed.

Nah, that's just a knack. let it fill by itself and it's easy to start.

@blsnelling: So, will it be salty again?

Dutchie, I'll invite you over next time I need to prime mine then because it manages to make me scream with frustration every time! Not to mention I can't find good instructions on how to prime it ANYWHERE.

I really like the look of the stand and canopy
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Outstanding plumbing and really nice tank - hope the tank doesn't force you to complete the basement in order to match it!
    Knowledge is fun(damental)

A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell
