can you (i) feed too much...?

I have a bunch of feedter fish an i started a prep tank for them for my RES
If i put food in there they eat it all, no matter how much or when.
There are a few minows an some nice looking goldies that i would like to keep an see how big i can get them. Its a 150gal an has plenty of filtration and so substrate.
I test the water every other day an the amo is always under .25
I feed them a variety of foods from tetra flakes, dry cat food, Tortillas, and if i come acroos something that would be healthy for them
They are doing good an look healthy, but my question is....

Can i feed the almost 24/7 with out harming them? An i will keep a good eye on the amo

Fish will eat when fed even if not hungry. They dont have the brain to tell them not to eat like we do, their mentality is to eat as much as they can (even to the point of stomach explosion) because they dont know when their next food is coming. The recommended amnt for fish to eat is enough to be consumed within 20seconds-1min

The ammonia reading is too high. Zero ammonia is the only acceptable reading.

Im sure the amo is 0 theres just an under .25 color
Iv never seen them rub on the drift wood i have in there
An i did not know that about there reason to eat, thank you
But ill stick to the three meals a day for them 5am 2pm 8pm an give them the 1 min rule

Unless you're purposefully gutloading the feeders feeding three times a day is still too much in my honest opinion.
And proper gutloading should be happening with better quality food than it sounds like you're providing.

Ya, you might look at it this way.

since they are feeder fish you want them full of awesome stuff, so when your big fish eat them, they get those nutrients.

so quality feeding starts at your basic.
so providing good foods is a start.
and then feeding them not so often, they'll be leaner (not fatty)

this will translate to healthier bigger fish.

With 4 pacu in small tanks like that you'd want them as healthy as possible.
