    Has anyone had experience with Lee's Bio-Pin Balls? How's the maintenance on them, easy?

    definitely best used in a wet/dry setup. I would rather have ceramic noodles which are great for both.

    +1 to Crispy - ceramic is superior to any other media for ease of cleaning, durability, and performance.
    Knowledge is fun(damental)

    A 75 gal with eight Discus, fake plants, and a lot of wood also with sand substrate. Clean up crew is fifteen Sterba's Corys. Filters: canister w/UV, in-tank algae scrubber that removes phosphates and nitrates! Also, a highly dangerous commercial nitrate removal unit from hell

    I use them in SW but don't rely on them in my setup but they do work great. Some say they are nitrate factories but they are not because they are only designed to convert ammonia to nitrites then nitrates. You would need something else to remove the nitrates.

    I use to use ceramic for FW setup and they worked great. Same ones I bought lasted me for least 5 years till I went to SW. Depeding how big you go there is also K1 kaldness in a fluidized setup.
