  1. Default Freshwater Bottom Flow Questions

I posted a few days ago about my eventual plans to upgrade to a 75 gallon tank - with a HOB AquaClear 110 and a Canister Fluval 406.

Would anybody know if I would have deadspots with this setup? Where should each filter go on the tank in order to maximize my in-tank water turnover?

    My fish include:

    2 Pink Kissing Gouramis
    1 Large Common Pleco
    1 Betta

I'm aware the Betta will not like current - I will probably just set him in a nice 10 gallon.

Anyway - back to my original question - would a powerhead help me with this? These guys produce quite the bioload on the bottom so I think it would help that get taken up by the filter.

So: Is it necesarry for me to get a powerhead of some form? Does my community like current (other than the betta)?

    Thanks!

Depends entirely on your 'scape. Some position the outputs on the same side - Some opposite..There is no guaranteed setup.

I would just fool with it a bit and see if you have major dead spots and tweak accordingly.

Truth - would there being any advantages to a powerhead other than eliminating deadspots?

--Such as keeping some of the bioload off the floor?

--Would either of my fish like it more?

It is totally true that the more waste you keep in suspension the more the filters will pick up but it's rarely a perfect system lol.

One potential benefit is that you could run a sponge filter with it and increase your filtration [If you can hide it or not actually if the aesthetics don't bother you], Not really required IMO but you could work it that way if you wanted to.

Thanks for the posts - hopefully somebody else chimes in just to get another opinion and all!

I just worry about the dead spots - but I think those filters might be okay - and as you said - I would have to see if I have any to begin with.

Wouldn't mind keeping the load suspended a little longer.

    Thumbs up

Good luck, A 75 is a great size tank IMO

    Enjoy the journey!
