Just as an update to the fry, they are still in the pit and still have large yolk sacs, but their eyes are much more prominent now. They also seem to hop around the rocks now. I took a new video this morning and will include the Youtube link to it here.

congrats. I also live in Windsor. I can always find homes for some of the babies if they get a bit larger. did the parents come from the same batch?

Those are great looking fish and congratulations on the fry. When my texas cichlids spawn I always leave the fry in the main tank with the parents and other occupants. The fry last as long as the parents take care of them, but after about 3 - 4 weeks the parents get ready to spawn again and stop caring for the fry and the other tank mates eat them. Which is fine with me because I don't have anywhere to house that many fish and I can only sell so many.
I have thought about moving some to a grow out tank and raising a few but I am afraid of injuring the fry in the move. How did you move yours and did you lose any while you were moving them?

Crispy - What area of the city are you in? We are in East Windsor near Forest Glade. I'm not sure if the parents are from the same batch, but they were bought at the same time from the same place, so chances are...

Snobabromonious - We only moved them because we didn't want to see too much damage to any of the adults. We had a bucket of tank water that they came from (as well as half a tank of water from the main tank, half fresh) and used my large syphon to suck them up. Then we grabbed the last half dozen with a small net. We might have lost a couple, but if so, you really can't tell in the swarm that is still left. We also moved Momma with them because she is doing a good job. It also gives her time away from her mate and the JD so that she can recuperate. I'll give her another couple weeks with them before moving her back to the main tank. If they are prolific spawners then we'll see how many we have left from the last batch before deciding to save the next. I know my JD would appreciate the snack, lol.
