Love is in the air
HI today after cleaning my big tank I noticed my fish all going crazy a couple of hours later. My rusty Cichlids were mating for about a half hour. It was neat to see the female laying the eggs and then picking them up, but she lost one egg due to a blue cobalt interupting and she was not fast enough to get the egg. The eggs are very big I thought they would be smaller. Then my OB was dropping eggs and picking them up and another rusty male was fertilizing the eggs. Then 2 of my yellow labs were holding. I am going to have to pick up another tank and quick. The pet store that I use to sell fish to stopped selling live animals so I am probably going to see if putting an add in the classifieds. I hate to just dump them. I might just nature sort things out.
I was wondering can cichlids mate anytime during the year or is it only just during certain times of the year? I have not done my regular water changes due to working alot of overtime. I tested my water but it was ok but I am going to get back to my weekly water changes again. I noticed the fish seem to grow faster.

in aquariums they can mate at anytime In the wild they breed at the beginning of the rainy season. This is why when doing water changes it can bring on mating behaviour because it simulates the rain.

Yes that is true. Although I have never seen so many breeding fish in my tank before. Usually my labs are doing the breeding. Not the others. I am going to have to buy another tank.
