bala pairs
I introduced 3 new Bala sharks today bringing the tank total to 6. When I had 3 1 fish stayed to himself now they are swimming in 3 pairs not schooling.

Hope you have a big tank. Bala's reach a foot and are nutty swimmers going as fast as they can, slamming into decorations and glass and upsetting others. They need a lot of swimming space.

I second that, and by big we mean in the hundreds of gallons.
the computer monitor you are using is the size of a full grown bala shark.
edit: just saw your post.
pending the size that you purchased them, they are already experiencing issues with their lack of space.

Nope they are very small and have made plans even if my new 200 gal. is not ready when they need to move. Now back to my question. They have paired up and are not really schooling and I find this a little strange.

schooling is a defensive behavior, fish don't school for any other reason than they are stressed/defensive mechanism.
so the goal is to NOT see schooling.
if you see them school-then that means your tank "balance" is off and you'll be susceptible to disease.
