My One and Only Tank (right now)

Well I'm an advocate of getting pets you should keep and provide for for life on the whole. It's difficult with schooling fish as that means keeping them in schools (so replacing those that die). I'm not sure I'd like to let my school die off one by one. Not sure. I believe it is better to keep a full school throughout and rehome them as a batch when the time comes. Things aren't always that practical though, granted.

You could set up a "local" biotope. That would be interesting. What area are you in?

Do you think you might be willing to keep a journal on that Biotope?

There are a huge number of extremely colorful species of shiners and the like in Georgia rivers and streams, but I have never gotten around to collecting for it.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs. I have a wetlands in my backyard that used to flood full every spring, bringing in mature fish that would then spawn. I collected minnows, bull heads, and crayfish here.

Then in the summer it would dry up. Very sad watching fish flopping around in small puddles.

I also collected natives from local ponds. Pumpkin seed, Green sf, and Blue
Gill, Red Stripe top minnows and a couple others (in separate tanks)

It will be a few months before I can collect again if I decide to go this route.
