black convicts

Hi everyone, I'm 99.9999% possitive I have a male and female convict in my 110gallon setup and have had them for about 5 months now and they have not mated at all yet ( not that Im trying too) But any ideas why this could be the case for my convicts and will they eventually mate or is that a wait and see type situation?

If its a male and female you generally know it in 5 days, not 5 months. I just think you have the same sex fish. Have you vented them? What is your determining factor for sexing?

color difference between the two is very big and read online that females usually have redish color on there belly and it will be much bigger area than what a male who shows this color in the belly will have. the one im thinking from pics online is a female is lighter then the other with a redish belly and when it swims around with its fins up its a mix of green, blue, yellow, and other kinda irrodesant colors. I could be wrong but just going by what I can find online

That's the fish that share the tank with several oscars, right?

ya they are in that tank, sometimes they even school with the oscar and they dont seem to mind each other. I hope thats a good sign that once I get more then likely a 240 gallon wide tank once I move that they will all continue to live together. maybe I'm too hopeful of this community of fish ever working in the long run but so far they at least all get along untill I can do something else

Also Its only what I read online and could be total bull so I just remembered to ask all you guys here.... I read that convicts once they have young are tough enough to proterct the young from thins like full grown pleco and big oscar. Is this true or is this valid claims that Ive read online?
