They'd be fine with Harles, because they don't occupy the same space. GBRs claim the bottom territory as their own. In a 20Long, that would mean you probably couldn't have another bottom dweller. You might get away with some Otos, but nothing too intrusive.

I am intrigued by a southeastern asian semi-biotope with the harleys (at least double their school size??)... found some info on plants... cryptocoryne was suggested. I think this tank would look good with some root like driftwood and a bunch of crypts... Your thoughts?

Picked up some new stock for this tank tonight. I upped the harleys to 10, and added a German Blue Ram and a Blue Gourami. That should cover the top, mid-level, and bottom of the tank. I know the gourami gets a little bigger, but they are supposed to be peaceful so I am hoping it works ok. The lfs where I bought him does take trade-ins, so I can return him if I need to...

A blue gourami in a 20? Not gonna work in my opinion? Is this an opaline gourami? Not peaceful. They're pretty aggressive and grow fairly big. I would keep one in less than a 55.

This one: http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fish/goldgourami.php Says it's a community fish, but if you don't think it will work I will return him. I don't want problems...

They can reach 6 inches in length and are territorial. A 20 gallon won't be large enough. I've always been advised not to mix gourami with cichlids. I think you should return the gourami. Sorry.

You could try to keep a pair of rams in the 20.

No need to apologize... I appreciate the advice! Not what I wanted to hear, but oh well. I will be returning him...

Gourami has been returned. I watched him for a few minutes after I got off work today and he was bullying the other fish a little already so I am sure it would have only gotten worse. Thanks for the warning Firefly!!

I picked up another Ram while I was there. I am 90% sure the one I got yesterday is a female and 70% sure the one I got today is male. They are locally breed fish, so they should be more hardy...
