    I did transfer some media from the old filter and the sponge filter was also in the old setup so I guess some bacteria did survive even though I wasn't able to find pure ammonia right away. I actually started seeing nitrates a couple days ago, but haven't tested them since...

    That's a good sign! Shouldn't be to much longer till your cycled.
    20 gallon tall: empty
    29 gallon: moderately planted with 9 bloodfin tetra, 1 german blue ram, 11 glow light tetra and 1 BNP
    10 gallon QT: empty

    I am calling the tank officially cycled. Tested 0 ammo, 0 trites yesterday, dosed to 2ppm ammo last night, tested 0 ammo, 0 trites today! (Trates are around 80)

    Time to go fishing!!!!

    Remember to do that large water change to bring down your nitrates before adding fish! You want them no higher than 20ppm - great job!

    Yup- definitely doing at least one large water change before stocking. Might be a while before I can find my multies... I will have to feed the BB with ammonia until I stock, I plan on keeping nitrates low even before I stock to try to avoid an algae explosion...
