I wish they would have spent more time talking about how the barrels get rifled, but I guess these are not target. It sure is nice to see a more traditional manufacturing company the doesn't source sub assembly or components off-shore

We rifle the pistol barrels the way you saw in the video, broaching with a button rifling tool. (I'm not well versed in some of the technical aspects of the machining processes) That button rifling shaft has two cutting surfaces, and when it is pulled through the barrel, it twists at a specific ratio--Creating two spiraled groves throughout the ID of the barrel. I can't remember the ration it spins at. It's like ## of 360 degree twists per inch or something.

Our rifle barrels come rifled from the company we order them from. Very high quality barrels. I'm not sure why we don't do the rifle barrels ourselves. I think the method they use is much more sophisticated, and wouldn't be worth the trouble for us to set up a CNC machine that costs god knows how much to only do that process. Plus, we don't have much more room in that facility. We are like 4 employees from maximum capacity, and their are machines EVERYWHERE! Haha.

It's an awesome job. I love it. I look forward to going in everyday. Even thought it seems like you would have a blast there, which there are times you do...literally... it is still a job. We have quotas and expectations that we have to meet just like any other job. There are consequences for not meeting said expectations. Luckily, I don't know what those consequences may be. I bust my butt lol. I like to set records with how fast an operation can be done. When I first started working there, the average time it took someone to barrel, drill, and pin an upper receiver was about a minute to a minute and a half. Yours truly does it in about 28 seconds as long as nothing screws up. I'll stop flattering myself right here. HAHA

Being a Tool Maker myself for 31 years I appreciate the video and the technology used these days.

p.s. There is nothing bad about being a supervisor, I've been one in the manufacturing sector (automotive and appliance), for the last 29 years.

What sort of tools did you make? If I remember correctly, our facility used to make tools for Craftsman many years ago. Also made golf putters. Lots of stuff.

That's our site^ to the machine shop portion of the business. Doesn't look like it's been updated in some time. (Two businesses in one, with hopes to go 100% gun manufacturer in the next year or so.)

I love my new position. We actually set a record last month for the number of guns the company has ever built in one month.

I made dies and de-bugged them that made over-head cam follower parts and rocker-arms for both the tier 1 and after-market facilities. GM was the prime buyer.
Making barrels and components sounds like a dream job. Thanks for sharing.
