Default ridding a yard of stray cats?

    0 Not allowed!
we are having a bad issue of stray cats. with a dog its not something that is acceptable as we dont want the dog going after the cats and getting hurt or the cats geting hurt. is there anything we can do to get rid of them? something we can put in the yard or something? i am going to call the local aspca to see if they can trap and rehome them or something...

Sadly calling the local aspca is probably your best bet. We had a similer problem when we moved into my Grandmothers house when she passed away and thats what we had to do. She made the mistake of feeding every stray that came around. Than people started dumping thier unwanted pets there. We had a situation like this also when I was a kid and our ranch was the last one before you got into 25 miles of no houses and people would drop off their unwanted cats there also.

I don't know why people take in pets and can just disgard them like that and follow the same pattern 50 years later.

    I wish you luck.

You could always mark your territory...

lol, steeler... that is ridiculous. "We don't want 'em... you deal with 'em!" Pretty sad... If you can't take care of a pet, re-home it... but to someone who wants it. haha

One option you could do, as funny or weird as it sounds, is set something up like this

Find where they are coming into the yard (hole in fence, over fence etc). Put a little fishing line across it that is tied to some cans, bottles (anything that will make noise)

They hit the wire, knock over all cans and bottles, it might startle them enough that they stay away (worth a shot)

That's so sad, you could call the aspca or trap them yourselves and take them in but if they are feral most likely they will be destroyed. Check online for motion detectors that emit sound or motion water sprayers that could deter the cats.

Cats really hate moth balls. I used to put moth balls in our flower beds to keep the cat next door from coming our to our place to "fertilize" the flowerbeds. It worked really well. Cheap and effective.

It might help your situation while you are working on a more permanent solution,
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

Good suggestion...they do hate moth balls...

And the bonus is: No moths!

Stray cats aren't an easy issue to deal with. Cats reproduce at an alarming rate, and as noble as it is to want to rescue them all, in reality you can't do it. I tried to manage the feral cats in our barn. I still do a bit (like rehome kittens if I can catch them and tame them in time...and have homes lined up for them) - but mostly I've given up...

I have not brought any cats to our barn...they just show up...usually already pregnant.

Deer be Gone and Rabbit Be gone. I use Habanero pepper powder at the couple of spots cats like to hang in my yard. I don't like the cats in the yard because they wipe out the song birds. I feel all cats should be kept indoors and not let out to "hunt" my poor little birds. I get the poor abandoned cats left across the street in the forest.

Agreed. I can't stand it when people keep "outdoor" cats. That's irresponsible as hell... Never mind that your cat is probably crapping in everyone's lawn, terrorizing their "indoor" cats, killing/chasing off animals others would enjoy, and ruining flower beds, etc... but your "outdoor" cat is at risk of being killed by animal or car. Then, when their cat does get injured/killed by a car or something, they act surprised by it. Irresponsible... simple as that.
