  1. Question Can Mosquito Larvae be a food supplement to my fishes ?

    Hi Members ,
I want to know if I produce mosquito larvae in my home could it be a live food supplement to my goldfishes and plecos n Shark ? Kindly suggest me the safest ways to feed them to my fishes.
    Waiting for your precious suggestions...

Can't think of any "pleco" that would be able to hunt them. Some of the "sharks" might be able to manage (none of these species belong in the same tank as goldfish so I really do hope it's two seperate setups"). The goldfish will probably enjoy them. My barbs and tetras love them.

What I usually do is fill a white plastic container with some tank water. Catch the larvae with a small net. Take a good look that I haven't caught anything nasty like a damselfly larvae (that's easier on a white container) and then feed.

Thanks a lot for your reply ...... its not shark its catfish and pleco is living for past 2 or more years with goldfishes with no single problem......I actually thought of in that particular manner to harvest mosquito larvae as you suggest, I will now start the culture with no fear......

Just beware, the larva that do not get eaten will hatch and be in your house. My friend had that problem, dont over feed mosquito larva.
Warning; Bulldog Pleco guarding my Sons tank now..

Please remember; every keystroke has a consequence.

Good point, nothing worse than a house full of vectors.

When you feed in moderation this should not be an issue. When I feed larvae I don't feed anything the next day. It takes a very, very clever and lucky larvae to survive a school of lambchop rasboras on the hunt.
