Looking into 2nd Tank

For the amount of shrimp, I would suggest 35 or so. If you are the kind of person that is scared of any risk period, go with 20, I've seen the 2/gallon rule before. But if your only going to have like 3 or 4 fish, and you want to see shrimp everywhere, go with 40. I know that 100 shrimp can manage in a 10 gallon, but thats mainly for breeding.

Picked up the stand and everything.. $20

The heater is absolute junk
Stand needs a bit of touch up paint (surface rust in some spots)
Filters look great shape (Top fin 10's)
Lights both work (have purplish looking bulbs, 15W each so I may just stick with the
Gonna sell air pump and fake tree deco and prob toss the backgrounds

Journal will be started soon. I have decided that for the forseable future it will be a shrimp only tank

Just need to get the following:
New Heater
New Tank
Maybe Eco Complete substrate or will do the turface again with root tabs
Driftwood / plants and shrimp

Thinking the final budget will be around $100 for the entire thing, plus I'll almost have everything I need for a 2nd shrimp tank :)

Not always true. Red cherries for example reproduce best at 25-26C.

I found a good deal on a 100w Jager heater, would that be too much for the tank, its rated for 20-30 gal... This heater is actually cheaper than buying the 50w... won't it just not have to work as hard?

Yes. You can use a heater rated for a larger size tank. As you thought, it just will not work as hard.
